Temperature scaling, glassiness and stationarity in the Bak-Sneppen model
نویسنده
چکیده
We show that the emergence of criticality in the locally-defined Bak-Sneppen model corresponds to separation over a hierarchy of timescales. Near to the critical point the model obeys scaling relations, with exponents which we derive numerically for a one-dimensional system. We further describe how the model can be related to the glass model of Bouchaud [J. Phys. I France 2, 1705 (1992)], and we use this insight to comment on the usual assumption of stationarity in the Bak-Sneppen model. Finally, we propose a general definition of self-organised criticality which is in partial agreement with other recent definitions. Deterministic Bak-Sneppen model. Lyapunov spectrum and avalanches as return times
A deterministic version of the Bak-Sneppen model is studied. The role of the Lyapunov spectrum in the onset of scale-free behavior is established and avalanches are interpreted as return times to a zeromeasure set. The problem of accurate determination of the scaling exponents near the critical barrier is addressed using a characteristic function approach. A general equation for return times to...
متن کاملScaling in a simple model for surface growth in a random medium
Surface growth in random media is usually governed by both the surface tension and the random local forces. Simulations on lattices mimic the former by imposing a maximum gradient m on the surface heights, and the latter by site-dependent random growth probabilities. Here we consider the limit m → ∞, where the surface grows at the site with minimal random number, independent of its neighbors. T...
متن کاملUniversality Class of Bak-Sneppen Model on Scale-Free Network
We study the critical properties of the Bak-Sneppen coevolution model on scalefree networks by Monte Carlo method. We report the distribution of the avalanche size and fractal activity through the branching process. We observe that the critical fitness fc(N) depends on the number of the node such as fc(N) ∼ 1/ log(N) for both the scale-free network and the directed scale-free network. Near the ...
متن کاملDamage spreading in 2-dimensional isotropic and anisotropic Bak-Sneppen models
We implement the damage spreading technique on 2-dimensional isotropic and anisotropic BakSneppen models. Our extensive numerical simulations show that there exists a power-law sensitivity to the initial conditions at the statistically stationary state (self-organized critical state). Corresponding growth exponent α for the Hamming distance and the dynamical exponent z are calculated. These val...
متن کاملThe avalanche dynamics in Bak-Sneppen evolution model observed with standard distribution width of fitness
We introduce the standard distribution width of fitness in the Bak-Sneppen evolution model. Through observing the fluctuation of this quantity in evolution, we find a different hierarchy of avalanche dynamics, w0 avalanche. We also obtain the corresponding gap equation and the self-organized threshold wc. The critical exponents (τ, γ and ρ), which describe the behavior of avalanche size distrib...
